in support of World Vision’s 40 hour famine
in 2008, the youth of revolution are participating in the 40 hour famine and are seeking to raise over $5000 in partnership with world vision to give kids in India their basic human rights and free them from child labour, trafficking and slavery! for more information visit the world vision website @ www.worldvision.com.au
so what is the 40hr famine?
the 40 Hour Famine is one of Australia’s biggest youth fundraising events. it’s a chance to do something real: go without food or something else that really matters to you for 40 hours (8 for youth in primary school) and raise money for kids living in poverty overseas. It’s a great way for young Australians to get a taste of what life’s like for children who have to go without - every single day.
the 40 Hour Famine started in 1975 to raise money to help children, families and communities in desperate need. Today it continues to provide both short-term and long-term support as they tackle the causes of poverty in their community.
we believe young people hold the key to freeing the world from poverty. The skills and enthusiasm they develop as leaders are critical in changing the way industry, educational institutions, society and families think about the world. the 40 Hour Famine exists to educate young people on global poverty and motivate them to action through fundraising for World Vision projects.
where do the funds go?
india - child labour, trafficking and slavery
funds go towards World Vision’s work to protect kids like Kajal from child labour. famine funds will be used to raise awareness in poor urban communities about the damage caused by child labour and the importance of education. We will also help provide poor families with income-generation opportunities so they don’t have send their children out to work and fight to ensure that laws to protect children are enforced.
funds will also be used to free trafficked children and to help restore their childhood through rehabilitation services, which will give them access to education, health and recreation opportunities

+ laos and east timor
food and clean water shortages are still big problems in these countries, and often children are denied their basic childhood rights to education and play because they are forced to work in the fields or search for their family’s meal every day. your support means you’ll be helping to teach families better ways to grow new crops and earn a livelihood, and provide new seeds, tools and access to clean water.

does the money really make a difference?
YES!!! every $40 raised in THE FAMINE: 2008 will help eight kids like Kajal for one month.
as you can see, it only takes a few donations to make an incredible difference in the lives of kids forced into child labour, trafficking and slavery. think about it next time you and your mates hit the shops!

is this the first time revolution has done something like this?
by no means!!! revolution has a generous history of partnering with various mission organisations, advocating and raising money for those all over the world who don’t have basic human rights.
in 2007 we raised more than $5000 to stop child trafficking.

in 2006 we raised money for our church’s ongoing mission work in Burma.
in 2005 we were able to contribute to four different orphanages in Burma in the areas of emergency relief‚ education‚ and sustainable farming.
revolution has had a strong connection with mission over the past number of years and the winter sleepout has been one of the main forums for making this happen. below are details of the last number of years:
